Living-with chaos
The world is becoming more chaotic. We witness political chaos, maybe soon economic chaos, war, climate issues which will become climate chaos in the future. I have been involved in studying problem- and project-based learning (PBL) in engineering education for more than 40 years. In my generation, we thought we did something good to engineering education by implementing PBL. Maybe we did, but I do not think this is enough any longer. We need to educate our students to deal with chaos as part of complexity. Students should learn to take risks, immediate actions and to collaborate across disciplines and educational levels. We need to prepare the next generations for living in a chaotic world. How do we keep the spirit?
