Anette Kolmos
Strategic Advisor, Author, Visiting Professor - all based on 24 years as Professor in Engineering Education Research and PBL at Aalborg University
Personally, I am concerned and worried about the future. And personally, I am on a journey from been working more than 50 hours per week, to start thinking about life, the stars and billions of galaxies and how it all started. I am a proud mother and a grandmother and being so lucky that I still have my husband during 40 years. I grew up on a farm and I still have the values from my childhood. Likewise, I try to live my values and integrity is important for me.
Professionally, I am a former Professor in Engineering Education and PBL, Founding Director (Director 2014-2023) for the UNESCO category 2 Centre: Aalborg Centre for Problem Based Learning in Engineering Science and Sustainability. UNESCO Chair in PBL in EE (2006-2014) at Aalborg University. I was a guest professor at KTH, Stockholm (2012-2017) and President of SEFI 2009–2011 (European Society for Engineering Education). I have contributed to the founding of Engineering Education Research (EER) in Europe and globally and I was the Founding Chair of the SEFI-working group on Engineering Education Research.
I have had the privilige to be awarded the Leonardo da Vinci Medal in 2023, IFEES Global Award for Excellence in Engineering Education, 2013 and the SEFI fellowship in 2015. During the last 20 years, I have researched the following areas, primarily within Engineering Education: gender and technology, project based and problem-based curriculum (PBL), generic competencies, educational change and interdisciplinarity. My last research project was InterPBL on interdisciplinary projects (2020-2026) funded by the Grundfos Foundation.
I have a rather long list of publications. My latest book Engineering Education for Interdisciplinary Futures summarizes many of the results and points at future directions.
